Have you heard the one about the three musicians and the author?

How could this have happened and how could I’ve forgotten this?  Somewhere in the past few days I listened to the album “An Evening with Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer” again when Neil talked about the idea, the recording and the album “Nighty Night”. I  went online and bought it immediately. Since then it accompanies me everywhere, on the way to the office, at home or while wandering around. It is a joyful, a sad album with happy tunes, too; with only having 6 songs on it.

The story of how this has happened itself is funny enough and I recommend to listen to Neil himself on the above mentioned album. So far I can tell you that Amanda Palmer, Ben Folds, Damian Kulash (from OK Go) & Neil Gaiman met and Ben Folds mentioned the crazy idea of recording 8 songs in 8 hours . So many creative people together in one studio should be able to accomplish this. As crazy as mentioning the idea was, each and everyone was crazy enough to say “Yes, why not, this should be working.”. From my point of view ..THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

So, the decision was made, and the studio was found, together they went into the Mad Oaks Studio with the aim of leaving and having 8 songs in 8 hours recorded. Neil also contacted fans on Twitter to give them the chance to collaborate with three musicians and an author.

To make a short story even shorter – they fabulously failed and delivered 6 great songs in 12 hours. My favorite song is “The problem with saints”, the idea alone of meeting a famous person from history who fight for rights and motives of higher morals nowadays  makes me curious.

The album is  available online va their homepage 8in8, The Band . Listen and Enjoy! 🙂
