Back into the Negative … sorry … Twilight Zone

‘The Voice of common Wisdom tells us that the Age of Miracles and Magic is Dead; that the Edges of the World are finite, circumscribed by a Confluence of Glass, Concrete, and enlightened Self-Interest.

It tells us that we journey from Dust to Dust through the Bargain Basement Floor of a Clockwork Universe utterly oblivious to our Existence … and that in the End, we all stand alone.

The Opposition offers into Evidence an otherwise nondescript Neighborhood on the West SIde of Manhattan. A Crossroads of Secrets, Dreams, and Desires whose Longitude and Latitude can only be found —

— in the Twilight Zone

First of all, I grew up with the first revival of ‘The Twilight Zone’ in the Mid-Eighties. Me liked it then but I have to admit that I never revisited them. Years later I found the original TV show from the 50s and 60s and I revisit those episodes quite often, even today. They were … and still are breathtaking, each story had an amazing script, well cast actors and to see movies nowadays makes me wonder how Rod Sterling, the creator of the show was able to pack those stories in episodes of 20 minutes of suspense, drama and so much more.

Meanwhile, there were also other revivials which were less successful, never seen them .. and some people like Leonardo DiCaprio are talking about making a movie because they share the same love for this show like I do. So far … nothing.

The fact that Dynamite Comics startet a limited series of 12 issues helps a lot during our waiting time. Furthermore one of the acclaimed writers of the first revival J. Michael Straczynski, who is also responsible for Rising Stars, Midnight Nation and many many other faboulos stories is writing this series. So far I read the first issue and it pays off, each element that made the TV Show in the 60s so extraordinary can be found.

The story starts with a Mr. Richmond, who works for a successful company and during a business meeting we find out that he started working there recently and is more or less responsible for the huge success. Later on we see that he wants to change his life and gets a message from a man who can provide this. He tells this man that he reached the end of his possbilities and he wants to restart with a complete new life, new look and a complete new identity. During the conversation we learn that it is all lies, Mr. Richmond did some dirty tricks to be successful and is now afraid of the government. Apparently they find a solution and a deal is done … what happens next is classic ‘Twilight-Zone-Stuff’ with quite a nice twist on the very last page.

So, thanks to Dynamite Comics and J. M. Straczynski we will have an interesting enrichment in the comics area this year.
